Behind the Mask with Martha Beck

Happy October 2

I am doing better. I I hope you are off to a good start this week. I wrote this letter at 5:30AM thanks to a group of loud, enthusiastic crickets!!! They just started up again. One is in the fireplace. Is that suppose to be good luck? A cricket in the "hearth?"

I am doing an upcoming show on the subject of Aspartame, how it has been placed into thousands of products and approved by the FDA in spite of studies showing its dangers.

Do any of you have any personal experiences with this chemical product that you would like to share? Do you have any opinions about it pro or con? Do you think it is safe or are you convinced it is not and why? Email me at jodavidson@mac.com

This week's episode of Zentertainment Talk Radio is sponsored by my favorite organic skin care line JAKARE. These products are absolutely wonderful. You can find out more about their skin care line at www.Jakare.com or order via phone at: (1-877-525-2731).

CONTEST for newsletter subscribers only: This week, enter to win a FREE Rejuvenating French Clay Treatment from Jakare! (Valued at $38). To be eligible to win, send your email address with a note saying "enter me!" Send entries to jodavidson@mac.com

The winner will be announced in next week's newsletter.

This week on Zentertainment Talk Radio, we go behind the mask with best selling author, Martha Beck.

Martha is a monthly columnist for O, The Oprah Magazine. She has written many books including The Joy Diet, Finding your Own North Star, Expecting Adam, and the new book "The Four Day Win: End your Diet War and Achieve Thinner Peace."

Of course, we both assumed we would be talking about her next book. But the conversation took a turn, and the show became about something much more personal.

This podcast goes deeper into the meaning of illness, the way it transforms and changes us, the dance between surrender and resistance. (And this dance applies to everything in our lives in which we wish to control).

Martha has some pretty strong opinions about the book "The Secret," and she talks about her own challenge with Fibromyalgia. She says that her bad days now are as rare as her good days were for over a decade. Wonderful news!

At the end of this episode, I also read a beautiful letter that she sent me. Tune in here:

http://www.zentertainment.org/podcasts.html

Enjoy the show and keep on keepin' on-

(Don't forget- email me your thoughts on the show as well as aspartame)!

Blessings,

Jo Davidson Zentertainment Talk Radio

Beliefs, Emotions, and Environment affect Genes

Posted on Oct 4th, 2007 by Zentertainment Talk Radio : Composer.Musician.Producer.Radio Zentertainment Talk Radio
I am beyond excited about the work of Bruce Lipton and his book THE BIOLOGY OF BELIEF. To me, this is just groundbreaking. We are mostly trying to make changes consciously because that is where we try to control and shift our beliefs. But do you ever wonder why positive affirmations as wonderful as they are, still don't always create the deep lasting change you want? The majority of what is determining things is unconscious. It is the subconscious beliefs, the tape player playing there. The newest research is showing that we can actually change our genes by our perceptions, beliefs and emotions, and by our environment. This would mean that we can no longer believe that we inherit certain conditions. we can actually change them. The neural therapy I have been doing addresses the subconscious mind and its beliefs. So does a great deal of the spiritual work I have been doing, for it is in that realm that we transcend the world as we know it, in the world of spirit, we expand beyond our conscious rational logical thinking. Have any of you read the book by Bruce Lipton and if so, what did you think? I am interviewing him for my show in a few weeks. Do you have any questions for him? Jo

So now onto this week's show.... Have any of you wanted to write a memoir, a story or maybe even a screenplay?

Does creativity comes from the tension of opposites?

We hear so much about the law of attraction which exists, and yet we do not hear so much about the tension of opposites and how they also attract. (Think of batteries).

As a gemini, sometimes I have cursed this dual nature. but could it be that this is actually the fuel for my creativity and therefore a gift?

How do we work with both our light AND our shadow?

My guest on this week's episode of Zentertainment Talk Radio is Catherine Ann Jones. Catherine is an award-winning writer whose films include The Christmas Wife (Jason Robards), Unlikely Angel (Dolly Parton), Angel Passing (Hume Cronyn, Calista Flockhart) , and the TV series, Touched by an Angel. Ten of her plays, including Calamity Jane and On the Edge, have been produced both in and outside of New York City. Winner of the National Endowment for the Arts Award among others, Ms. Jones, has served on the writing faculties of The New School University (NYC), University of Southern California (L.A.), Pacifica Graduate Institute, and the Esalen Institute. Ms. Jones lives in Ojai, lectures internationally, and recently published a book on narrative writing and professional memoir, The Way of Story. Visit www.wayofstory.com

She will be sharing some tips on how to get started in the writing process, so make sure to tune in whether you are a professional writer or a new writer!

All you need is a notebook, a pen and courage.....

The Aspartame controversy

Hey all-

How is your October??

I wanted to let you know about this really important info. Please share it with your friends and family!

This week on Zentertainment Talk Radio, we're hanging out with filmmaker Cori Brackett. After consuming a six pack of diet Coke every day for many years, she developed symptoms of MS. Her internet research kept leading her to consider aspartame. Aspartame is the technical name for the brand names NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, and Equal-Measure.

This is a chemical that was once considered by the Pentagon to be a biochemical warfare agent. Early research showed it caused tumors in rats. Now it is a multi billion dollar business and by some mysterious twist, can be found in thousands of products, everything from chewing gum, medicine, yogurt, broths, puddings and soups to diet and non diet drinks.

In Cori's case, it took almost 20 years for her to develop the illness that was caused by this so called safe "food additive."

In her search for the truth, Cori went around the country and interviewed top doctors and experts, lawyers, people with illnesses and uncovered research that became her acclaimed documentary "Sweet Misery."

If the FDA, American Cancer Society, National MS Society, American Diabetic Association and other groups consider aspartame safe, it must be. Right?

How did this happen?

Tune in to this week's show and get the real scoop! Protect yourself and your family!

p.s Cori has offered to give away one free copy of SWEET MISERY to a lucky newsletter subscriber. Interested in more information about Aspartame?

Aspartame accounts for over 75 percent of the adverse reactions to food additives reported to the FDA. According to researchers and physicians studying the adverse effects of aspartame, the following chronic illnesses can be triggered or worsened by ingesting aspartame: Brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, chronic fatigue syndrome, parkinson's disease, alzheimer's, mental retardation, lymphoma, birth defects, fibromyalgia, and diabetes.

************************************************************************************ "The most successful people are those who are good at plan B." -James Yorke

I came across this quote today and it helped me so much. At the moment, my plan A has moved to another planet. That doesn't mean it won't return. But for now, I am where I am.

What do we do when the life we had planned for or planned on, is gone? What can we create where we are, no matter where that happens to be?

Ripples happen when we throw out a small pebble into the water. The tiny pebble creates change. We all make a difference to the people around us and in the world, whether we always know it or not!

YOU make a difference! Your actions, thoughts, words, and your life all affect more people than you realize.

Nobody is perfect. God knows (and so do my friends and family) that I have plenty of ups and downs. I think maybe the thing is, to start right where you are now, and with what is possible right here. And when you wonder what is ahead, remember what Martin Luther King, Jr. said; "You don't need to see the whole staircase. Just take the first step."

Today, just take the first step!

In today's episode we are hanging with NY Times best selling author JOHN PERKINS. www.Johnperkins.org You heard his earlier podcast on his first book "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man." (If you haven't heard that yet, make sure to check it out)!

He has a chilling story to tell about his past involvement in global corruption. In this new episode he talks about the war in Iraq, the true cause of terrorism and how to create a real solution. He shares his experiences in other countries, as well as secret interviews with officials in the government, and lets us know that we might not be living in the democracy we think we are.

John has spent alot of time in the Amazon. What can these people teach us?

Check out the story he tells about the plant as he and a group came down the mountainside! It is inspiring!

In the United States, we are 5% of the world's population and yet consume 25% of the world's resources. This week, there are some things we can all do to help create a better world for everyone. Here is a sample of John's recommendations. See if you could do a few of them just for a week! It's a start!

1. When tempted to engage in retail therapy, instead jog, meditate, read, or find some other solution.

2. Make everything you own last as long as possible.

3. Shop consciously if there is something you must have. Purchase items whose packaging, ingredients and methods of production are sustainable and support life.

4. Write letters to Coca-Cola, Wal-Mart, ExxonMobil, Adidas, Ford, GE and other labor exploiters and environment destroyers and tell them why you refuse to purchase from them.

5. Downsize your car, home, wardrobe, everything in your life.

6. Send money to non profits, radio stations, and other organizations that promote your cause

(If you would like to contribute financially to Zentertainment Tall Radio you can do so on the STORE page or write jodavidson@mac.com for info)

7. Shop at your local farmer's market.

These are just a few of the suggestions offered in John's latest book. Remember, (I remind myself), it's the small steps that create the biggest changes!

Have a good week,

Jo Davidson Zentertainment Talk Radio www.Zentertainment.org
