The Secret has been hunted down and stolen

I have been putting away things off and on all day. Unpacking. I am done for the day. I am watching the seagulls and the wild geese to the sound of wind chimes gently singing in the cold spring air.I only slept 3 hours last night. I overdid it on the yerba mate tea yesterday when I was trying to pick myself up. It is damp, chilly, and overcast. If it weren't so cold I would strip down and jump into the water asap.
Your responses to my post on the secret were wonderful and continue to be. I am so glad to see that so many people appreciate positive thinking (yes to that), and yet many of you see through the BS of this movie called the secret. A light bulb went off today in my head as I read a few new responses you posted.
I have studied, lived with and pondered this movie for over a year now. I am not throwing out the baby with the bath water when I point out all that is wrong with it. Please remember that as you read.....there are some good ideas hidden in between the layers of , you know..and sometime let's talk about that stuff too...
At some point maybe we can all talk about how to create good things in life in the midst of the things we cannot control. How to survive what feels intolerable. Perhaps at some point we can turn this discussion to the meaning of courage, and what it means to be positive in the most honest sense of the word.
I am going to start writing in my gratitude journal again tonite. Gotta fill that thing up no matter how I feel. Use it to shift gears even a little.
How do you feel when the makers of the secret claim that the secret has been discovered, coveted, suppressed, hidden, lost and recovered? Do you believe them when they claim that this secret has been hunted down, stolen and bought for vast sums of money? (yeah our money paying for the books and dvds).

Well that is a brilliant marketing tool, a wonderful way to draw us all in. Bring out the conspiracy theories! It has been repressed! Stolen! We want it back! Uncover it now!
They say that for the FIRST time in history these ideas are are presented in one place. I guess the Bible didn't quite make the grade according to them.
I have a question for you. What do you all think of this- that we are told that this so called secret to success was practiced by some of the greatest people who ever lived such as Plato, Einstein, Beethoven, Lincoln, Newton and others. Has anybody caught this inconsistency in their teaching- that they are holding these people up as examples of the secret? This hit me today-

In 1802 Beethoven suffered severely from depression brought on by the realization that he was losing his hearing. "As for me," Beethoven wrote, "I am in despair so often and would like to end my life."
From one website, I learned that Newton often wrote for 18-19 hours a day, even ignoring meals and sleep. From another I learned that:
"Researchers believe that Newton displayed classic signs of the condition (autism).He hardly spoke, was so-engrossed in his work that he often forgot to eat and was lukewarm or bad-tempered with the few friends he had. If no one turned up to his lectures he gave them anyway talking to an empty room. At the age of 50, he had a nervous breakdown brought on by depression and paranoia."
And what about Einstein? Albert Einstein married a brilliant mathematician named Mileva Maric. In a time when women were not given choices and opportunities in education, she participated in her husbands' scientific work and is now deemed co-creator of his theory of relativity. Einstein worked obsessively, and sometime later began an affair with his cousin Elsa. He eventually divorced his first wife Mileva, leaving her with their two sons. She had a nervous breakdown. One winter Einstein got very sick and thought he had cancer then a gall bladder problem. He was on his back for months. He moved into an apartment across from Elsa and her daughters. Then he temporarily decided he wanted to marry one of Elsa's daughters, Ilse. (Can anyone say Woody Allen?) Ilse was not attracted to him and saw him as a father. In the end, he married his cousin Elsa in 1919 and he had many affairs during their marriage. She died in 1936. When Mileva died, at the age of 73, she was penniless, and her grave was unmarked.
"I can love humanity, but when it comes to close relationships, I'm a horse for single harness. I failed twice, rather disgracefully." As for marriage: "An unsuccessful attempt to make something lasting out of an incident. All marriages are dangerous."

Has anybody noticed this inconsistency? That the movie touts these people as having lived the secret and at the same time condemns the type of thinking and behaviour that they all struggled with. Does this seem a little off?
They had genius in them, just like you. Just like me. These are men who struggled and were imperfect. Just like you. Just like me.
So it seems to me that the true lessont is not that we can avoid hardships, but that in spite of them, and in spite of all our inconsistencies and crazy shadows, we somehow still shine.
Speaking of shining, I am REALLY looking forward to the warm summer weather. Bye for now.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one questioning “The Secret”. I wrote a couple posts on it on my wordpress blog: http://deeperthanthesecret.wordpress.com
My take is that they edited out the all important deeper and balancing aspects of what I call “energetic reality”.

It doesn't matter WHO the person is - Einstein, or the elderly lady next door - the 'law of attraction' has been around since the beginning of time. And no one ever stolen it. It's not available for stealing, as it resides within each and every one of us individually.
The book and the movie 'The Secret' failed to look at the MOTIVATION of desiring and/or choosing things. Be very, very careful for what you ask for because you may well get it. How many of you have seen the 'three years later' documentaries on people who have won the lottery? Let's see many of their outcomes are divorce, bankruptcy, suicide … to name but a few.
Our mind is comprised of three distinct parts: mental (thinking) emotional (feeling) and volitional (will). These three aspects are separate, yet work hand-in-hand. Integrated, they make up our personality, and shape our ego.
- The mental aspect is cognitive - it pertains to perception, memory, judgment, and reasoning.- The emotional aspect is an affective state of consciousness in which joy, sorrow, fear, hate, or the like, is experienced.
- The volitional aspect is the act of willing, choosing, or resolving - a choice or decision made by the will.
Ego has two sides: (1) Appropriate pride in oneself; self-esteem. And, (2) an exaggerated sense of self-importance; conceit, needing to receive ‘credit' for things.
Spirit
The spirit is the vital principal in humans - it is our very essence, our being, our soul. It is the spiritual part of humans as distinct from the physical part. It is our inner self-the unseen part of us. It is divine. The soul is concerned with the nature and purity of our motivation. It is what inspires us. Unlike the body and mind which are interdependent, it is a different entity, separable from the body. It departs from our physical remains at death.
The soul's purpose is to guide the personality (thinking, feeling, and will) to find and fulfill its life's purpose; its soul contract, if you will. When our personality is in the driver's seat making decisions that are based on ego or fear, the outcomes are usually not in our best interest.
When our personality is integrated with our soul, and our soul is in the driver's seat making the decisions, the outcomes are positive, uplifting, constructive, and healing.
Now that, my friends, is the real 'law of attraction'.

…what a lovely post, … every single word … so full of truth … and newton had mercury poisoning at the end of his life - (where the term “mad as a hatter” came from: hat makers used felt that had been treated with mercury) … and lincoln suffered such bouts of depression his whole life, didn’t want to be president, didn’t feel he was up to it or could stand the insanity that went along with it … how hilarious that all of the self-help stuff is to ‘fix’ us … it’s more about compassion for the robot we live inside , don’t you think? and keeping on with it all, in the face of whatever Living brings …
The movie is full of brain washing and hypontic suggestion. Have you ever watched anyone who first hated it and then watched it. They repeat trigger phrases to themselves and go back to it again. Has anyone read the persons presenting the ideas. The immense amount of feeding and vamping off of all that have anything to do with that movie is scary. And the”dark” will tell one that one need not be responsible. Nor want for anything…the easier softer way. It also does not teach of the law of returns or detachment. When manifesting..one is harnessing energy and could be shifting it. Scary thought when you give a broken tool to a dysfunctional person. It is sad to watch a person that was learning a life lesson…suddenly become 'wonderful” which means…oh anything i dont' like is negative and there is nothing wrong with me..it's everyone else,,,,negative will just leave me..and you left so you are negative. What a crock.
There are bits pieces of thought for work and learning life lessons in there, but a lot of the “recipe” is gone. A bit like making chocolate chip cookies with only the chips. Or building a house on sand. And what about the poor egos that cannot handle not manifesting. Because it was not in their best interest?
I am not happy with it. I am afraid many will not see until it is way too late.

One of my favorite books is THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING by Norman Vincent Peale. It is a wonderful book with many of the principles of positive thinking, and it seems to be based in a much more spiritually grounded foundation. I love it! Check it out sometime.

Yup, yup, yup.
Ya know I was watching that movie the other nite. It dawned on me, are the people who are sick with cancer, are they to blame for their illness? I have seen the suffering of some one with cancer and I AM SURE NO ONE, INCLUDING THE PERSON GOING THROUGH THE CANCER TREATMENTS is responcible for the illness. A cancer such as breast cancer or cancer of the blood (lekemia). I see CONDEMNATION in that movie. In my reality, there is NO CONDEMNATION for those who are in …
I was first attracted to the movie by the trailer.
The Secret-DVD came into my hands many months later, after so many incidents where I didn't get to see it that I was wondering what the Divine was trying to tell me.
When I finally got the DVD in my hand, it refused to work properly in any of our 3 computers at home. But I managed to watch enough to feel that familiar twinge in my body that says “there's something not right here.”
Then the DVD got lent to a good friend who immediately was sent 1000 miles away on a cancer-mercy mission, leaving the film at her locked-up house. The owner wanted it back, the local New Age Bookstor owner had got it into his head that he was responsible for the film, heard I had it, he and a few others started hounding me about it - there was a shouting match, etc., etc.

OK, so what's this about?
I believe we have the power to (co-)create anything.
Thank GOD, we generally haven't known this.
The heavenly hosts have had enough of a problem diverting cosmic catastrophies caused by human ego-minds - not just Atlantis/Mu etc, but all the other disasters described and/or hinted at in all the ancient religious documents!
Our God-selves/higher Selves/that aspect of us that Is (in) God will often stop us manifesting things
- that would impair our learning
- that would prevent something more generally beneficial happening, or
- that would get in the way of us experiencing the Dark Night of the SOUL (an absolute requirement for the deeper transformation in Greater Work Alchemy.)
As we become more aware of our empowerment, and the heavenly hosts give us more freedom from positive interference in our conscious creating, so it is incumbent upon us to show UNCONDITIONALLY LOVING LONG-TERM RESPONSIBILITY.
Are we there yet? How do we know that if we pray to prevent an earthquake, forest fire, tsunami, flood, hurricane, that we will not inadvertently pile up the stresses upon Mother Earth, so that when she blows, so will we… all of us …. to smithereens?!!!!
The Secret is right about one thing - remembering the extent of our power is what is happening now.
I pray that we learn the insight and response-ability that makes real empowerment safe for all creation!

As a general rule I say nothing rather than to say something negative, but I feel the need to make exception in regard to “The Secret”… I feel it important that the truth be known
This book and film is not only a direct theft of ancient teachings for the clear purpose of its producers generating profit for themselves, but it is: a) ineptly and poorly executed; b) its concepts and precepts are incompletely and incorrectly communicated;c) “The Secret” presents only one of MANY interconnected and interdependent laws that are integral to the ancient teachings I refer to, and are not even correctly presentedc) the content of what *is* presented in “The Secret” has been deliberately manipulated for the direct benefit of those who stand to profit from its book, DVD and CD sales
There's more, but I think you get the point. If you want the “real” thing, but aren't interested in a comprehensive program of mystical study, I suggest you purchase a copy of Earl Nightingale's “The Strangest Secret”… his material came from the proper source, and is incredibly presented. “The Strangest Secret” was originally written and recorded in the 1950s and was an enormous success. After being out of print for some time, the recording was remastered and re-released in 2000.
For those of you who would like a much more complete set of teachings in mysticism, try the “Ancient and Mystical Order Rosae Crucis” (The Rosicrucian Order), whose teachings contain (among a treasure trove of important information) all f the “laws” were speaking of. They are more or less that last intact ancient (teaching) mystery school…
