I listened to Barack’s speech last night in the car while we were driving. Some parts were more inspirational than others, but he addressed all the things that matter! I believe he wants to change all the things that count.
Of course wanting to change things and actually being able to accomplish those changes is another story. If he could accomplish even some of the things he talked about, he would be a success! His desires, beliefs and goals are on the right track.
I'm at the shore right now, and went out for a bike ride this morning. When I got back, one of my sisters called and told me about this woman McCain has chosen to be vice president for him if he wins. It took me awhile to calm down!
McCain is pretty old now, let’s be honest, and he has had alot of illness. If something were to happen to him, this woman would President.
Is this a joke??
This is a time when everyone needs to pull together to change the course of where things are presently headed. The view of our country from other countries, has shifted much for the worse over the 8 years. Our economy is worse than ever and so is the environment. The war is a mess. Many of the amazing rules and regulations that were set up to protect us from mercury contamination in the environment have now been reversed thanks to Bush. McCain is just more of the same.
Education is worse than before. Health care is controlled to a large degree by big pharmaceutical companies. And the gas prices are out of control. We need to get off our dependence on gas, not go drilling for more. We need support companies who keep their plants here in the United States, giving jobs to people in our own country. We need to make sure hunters can have guns, but dangerous criminals cannot. We need to make sure we are healing the environment and the earth, not destroying it every day. We need to get out of Iraq. I know so many of you feel the exact same way.
To me, these are all very "Christian values."
I am having such a hard time understanding why anyone would vote for McCain or fall for his campaign when things are such a mess right now, and his views are really not much different from what has happened here these last 8 years. I don’t get it. But for him to add this woman as his vice president is not just shocking, it is dangerous.
She has very little political experience.
I read a quote that says it far better then I do-
"John McCain needs what Kinky Friedman calls "a checkup from the neck up."
In choosing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate he is not thinking "outside the box," as some have said. More like out of his mind.
Sarah Palin first-term governor of a state with more reindeer than people, will have to put on a few pounds just to be a lightweight. Her personal story is impressive: former fisherman, mother of five. But that hardly qualifies her to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.
For a man who is 72 years old and has had four bouts with cancer to have chosen someone so completely unqualified to become president is shockingly irresponsible. Suddenly, McCain's age and health become central issues in the campaign, as does his judgment.
In his first presidential decision, John McCain has shown he is willing to endanger his country, potentially leaving it in the hands of someone who simply has no business being a heartbeat away from the most powerful, complicated, difficult job in human history. "
-Paul Begala
It was probably “Shockingly irresponsible” that George W. was put in as President in the first place. (to the despair of many ) There's an old Chinese curse, which runs “May you live in Interesting times!”
Well, we are certainly doing that.
I do not think McCain can win anyway, but to put this woman in as his running mate was political suicide! She has about as much experience as I do…..none.
I wonder how much mind McCain has to be out of to begin with & that said, methink the poor bugger is simply big time desperate.. the spin over here is that this is a wild shot at getting Hillary's female voters to come join him.. I saw them both earlier on the news, the bit where Pailn spoke & he stood next to. She may not have much experience, but certainly a strong personal energy.. didn't anyone tell him that he fades into nothing next to her? It's bad enough that he looks like a baffled lil boy on his own. tsk.
I have to agree with you in general. Seems like a 'Hail Mary' move. However, be careful about things like “72 years old and has had four bouts of cancer…” Look at my last blog, to recognise how people who have faced cancer may be more human than some of the rest of us.
Let's all work at getting Obama into office!! Oh, and send Leroy some money : )
thank you for your post – wise words all around – for more of the same message in a humorous format, see this from Andy Borowitz :)
McCain choosing Palin as his V.P. is not a good from the stand point of experience or risk mitigation should something happen to McCain. If it was about those 2 things, then he wouldn't have done it.
Unfortunately, it was about getting votes from women and stealing Obama's thunder and it did do that to a large extent. Also, it is also about showing people that he is willing to select a Washington outsider to show he is serious about change. Palin is a maverick and she has taken down a lot of corruption in her short term as Govenor.
So, is it political suicide? That remains to be seen. One would think so IF voters in the U.S. actually voted for a candidate based on qualifications, and McCain knows that is not always the case. In fact, he is betting it is not to a large extent.
From my perspective, it was either the most idiotic or brilliant thing he could have done to get elected. Stand by, when the voting both curtains close, people will choose any old way they want for any old reason. All she has to do is make inroads to people's common sense, desire for change, and hearts. She has that potential.
Sarah Palin has absolutely nothing to lose from this. She can afford to say and do just about anything as long as it is tough, change oriented, and reasonably intelligent. She has a few views and values that line up with some moderate Democrates. Her family values has strong appeal to Christian conservatives. Keeping her Downs Syndrome baby when she knew that fact ahead of time will play well with the extreme right. The “Hockey Mom” label will play big in the Midwest and in the Southeast where Obama is expected to struggle.
McCain and Palin don't represent my views, but I am not ready to say this election is over with her selection just yet.
Selecting Palin as a running mate was an interesting chess move. It makes you think, among other things, it brings another shade to the inexperience argument that's been already raging. As a result of McCain's choice people are asking themselves, “Would I rather have the inexperienced person a heart beat away from the presidency, or do I just want to go ahead an elect one right off the bat?”
It will be interesting to see how the American people respond to her directly as she interacts in full view of them, much the way we watched as Obama spoke to us. Obama's people say the primary process validated him, and I suppose we'll have to see on election day whether or not the people will validate her as VP.
What sort of mother is Sarah Palin that she would want her daughter to marry Levi Johnston right now? If this isn't bad judgement, I don't know what is.
And with all this pressure and spotlight, do the kids have a choice? Is this suppose to give me confidence in Sarah Palin's judgment?
It's one thing to encourage her daughter to keep a baby, but to get married?
Why is the Christian right praising this decision for her daughter to get married?
His myspace page has been removed, because it revealed too much.
So they took his myspace page down of course, but this is some of what he wrote on it before it was taken down.
“I'm a f - - -in' redneck who likes to snowboard and ride dirt bikes. But I live to play hockey. I like to go camping and hang out with the boys, do some fishing, shoot some s- - - and just f - - -in' chillin' I guess.”
He warns, “Ya f - - - with me I'll kick [your] ass.”
He also claims to be “in a relationship,” but states, “I don't want kids.”
I feel like we are in a reality show here. I mean, if the Democratic candidates had even half of this stuff to run with, can you imagine what Republicans would be saying!
Nice, huh?

I expect nothing less from the Christian Right. Low expectations I suppose. Intelligence consciousness, and awarenesss doesn't often factor into the belief system. Not unlike some descriptions of ideologies in WWII. I have seen it and experienced living in it very personally where I live. I used to get angry about it until I saw the unhappiness, sickness, and unhealthy/dysfunctional manifestations rampid in those lives. Geez the stories I could tell. What goes out comes back.
In fairness, there are many kinds of fundamentalism.
A loving word or phrase in day to day living is so foreign and beyond the daily communication it often leaves a blank stare for those on the receiving end. Drama based in tragedy is an ongoing life experience for many of these folks. Truly, it is the sadest thing I have ever seen and experienced in day to day living. Thank God I had the courage to choose otherwise.
I appreciate the My Space quotes ZE. Kind of reminds me of TN without the hockey part. If you have ever lived in the middle of it, words don't capture it.
Understanding your point feeling compassion for the limited lives behind it. That said, I don't want that in office.

This is so important I had to write- a girl named Jen shared this on my myspace blog a minute ago at www.myspace.com/jodavidson
I wanted to share the info here to help spread the word-please pass this on to anyone who you think will care-
Have you ever heard of aerial hunting? It's a brutal practice. Wolves are shot from low-flying aircraft or chased to exhaustion, then killed at point-blank range.
Governor Sarah Palin, the Republican nominee for Vice President, promotes this barbaric practice, exploiting a loophole in the Federal Airborne Hunting Act to allow private wolf killers to shoot down wolves using aircraft. We have to get the word out about this!
